THE STEPS OF IVF
Stimulation of follicle growth
It begins with 2-3 days of the menstrual cycle, lasts about 10 days. During stimulation, several visits to the fertility specialist are needed for an ultrasound and to evaluate the growth dynamics of the follicles, the endometrium, and the appointment of the puncture date of the follicles.
Oocyte retrieval, fertilization (ICSI, PICSI), possibly - vitrification of oocyte
Oocyte retrieval is carried out in the middle of the menstrual cycle under intravenous anesthesia, it is necessary to stay in the clinic for 2 hours. The choice of the method of fertilization is carried out by the embryologist depending on the spermogram indicators.
Embryo culture, perhaps - embryo biopsy for PGS/PGD
The development of fertilized ovum (embryos) is carried out in an embryological laboratory for 5-6 days. For medical reasons, a biopsy (sampling) of embryo cells can be performed during this period for preimplantation genetic screening / diagnosis in order to prevent the risk of having a child with a genetic pathology.
Embryo transfer and/or embryo cryopreservation
This procedure is painless, requires a stay in the clinic for 1 hour. We recommend transferring no more than two embryos. If there are a large number of embryos, as well as if the transfer of embryos is canceled for medical reasons, the embryos can be frozen and used later.
Period after embryo transfer
Within 14 days after embryo transfer, the patient takes medications to support the development of the embryo and to ensure maximum support for possible pregnancy. At the end of this period, a study of hCG in the patient's blood is performed in order to diagnose the onset of pregnancy
